Great pics Glenn! ;D Love that F-15c... is that really a slope soarer? The wings look very scale... must need a stiff breeze to stay aloft I bet! Also loved all the detail touches on the B-52! Very Nice! [glow=red,2,300]Admin[/glow]

Hi Rez, The F-15 is a Combat models airframe designed for a glow motor to keep it going. As a glider it was pretty ordinary. Once the C of G was eventually found it spent a lot of time slowly descending to the bottom of the slope. It was stable however. I think the best example of this model as a PSS bird is by Brian Laird of the ISR. He cut off the wings and replaced them with an RG14 section (i think), thinned out the fuselage a bit and enlarged the tailplanes. Even after all this he says it is a rocket and takes quite some lift to keep it up. I recall he said it took all his skill to keep it going and he is supposedly an ace pilot! I have seen video of the model on 'Lift Ticket' and it was very impressive. ;D When I read how much had to be done to make it fly I sold it. (plus we dont get really strong winds here and I'm no ace) I was thinking of ordering a HMM F-15 to replace it but found out they are no longer produced Regards, Glenn

Howard Metcalf of Metcalf models still makes his F-15 I think - that one goes well too - I saw Terry Lidstone fly his to good effect at Lleyn. Who makes the 'Balsa' PC-9? - that is very nice too!! There are a couple of kits for this type in the UK, (even in your Roulettes scheme) but thay are not the right shape. Your example looks much more like it - any details?? Hows progress with the big Aardvark??

G'day Phil, The balsa PC-9 is a power model that I picked up at a club auction for a steal. It is originally a power model and the previous owner obviously forgot to fuel proof the thing because the engine area wood was all sodden. Rotten for a power model but no drama for PSS. The plan and canopy are available from Airborne magazine, plan #555. www.airbornemagazine.com.au/images/5_01_page5.gifI used the original power wing section without any drama at all. I looked fantastic in the air! I sold her when a visitor from the country offered me way more money than I paid for it. Unfortunately HM no longer sells his range of models. Some of the designs are available, but alas, not the F-15. Refer: www.metcalfehmm.freeserve.co.uk/Bummer! That was one good looking model. The F-111 is sitting alone freezing to death in my workshop at the moment. As soon as I get some heating installed (or Spring comes along) I'll cover and fly her. I'll get some photos of her bare and post them too. Regards, Glenn

Freezing must be a relative term! Where in Oz are you Glenn and when you say freezing, how cold is cold? Cheers! [glow=red,2,300]Rez[/glow]

I'm from Melbourne, capitol of Victoria, the southern-most state on the east coast. ;D The temperature in the workshop during this time of year is around 1 - 5 degs C. Pretty darn cold in my books but maybe I'm just getting soft with old age I have one of those oil type bar heaters and after an hour or so it is up to maybe 10 degs. I'm going to get someone lighter than me to climb into the roof and fit a T junction to the central heating outlet here in my study and put an outlet into the workshop. Then I'll have no excuses. Regards, Glenn
