Hi, My name is Glenn Salisbury and I hail from Melbourne, Australia. I'm glad that the PSSA now has a dedicated PSS forum. It's hard to find like minded people especially when the passion (PSS) involves a very small percentage of the active R/C community. In my state, Victoria, there are a very limited number of PSS'ers. My mate Max and I are fanatics and have 30+ PSS models between us. About half of that again has previously been owned by us but have been sold off. We fly PSS as a rule and only have a limited number of sport gliders and power models. Him smelly, oily rubbish and electrics for me. Apart from Max and myself you occasionaly see another PSS model but they few and far between. I look forward to sharing information, ideas etc with you all. Regards, Glenn

Sorry, I knew I'd forget something....... Phil. I'm currently finishing off a 150% version of your F-111. I've wanted to build an F-111 for years now. The early swing-wing stuff in Silent Flight magazine really got the juices flowing. A friend of mine made a 50" or so swing-wing version of the F-111 a few years ago but he never managed to get the fibreglass fuselage to survive the initial flights/C of G tests. I wimped out and went fixed wing for the first one..... I've glassed the cheeks and am planning on Solartexing the rest starting sometime this week. Any pointers etc on finishing and flying? I only have a hand-me-down of the plan and have not read the construction article that went with it. Just wondering what to do for a canopy. Haven't noticed a 4.5 litre bottle of soft drink on sale recently have you Regards, Glenn

Glenn, Hi there - Good to see you on the forum! My original F-111 was covered in olive drab Solartex, I then used Humbrol paints to create the other 2 tones of the 3 tone scheme (early USAF colourschemes circa late 70's). Adding a few panel lines here and there with a fine permanent marker and a straight edge really brings the model to life! Re: the canopy - you are right, the original was cut from a 3L Coca Cola bottle which produced a canopy 'about the right shape' around the neck (Stand Off Scale RULES!!!)...if you need to make a better one at bigger scale then I would suggest making a dummy canopy out of hardwood, finishing it smoothly to the right shape, then place some thin polycarbonate or similar plastic sheet to the former and pour a boiling kettle over the assembly - this will effectively mould you a canopy to suit your needs. Alternatively (but not as cool ) - just carve one out of balsa and paint it a bronzy silver for the stand of effect. Regarding the flying - have you built it with a scale wing or did you opt to increase the span/chord a little? Either way I am sure that increasing the size of the model will only help - the model has a massive lifting body effect (see where the CofG is on the plan! )...my first one (with the scale wing) needed a good blow to get going properly, but became a much more friendly soarer once I added a slightly bigger wing! It flew fine with both wings when in the right conditions, and looked great when airborne. One point - it did suffer from a tip stall tendancy when using to much up elevator (but dont they all?) - well, most of them do anyway. Respect the elevator (particularly when turning back into wind from the downwind leg!) and you'll be fine! Good luck with it! - do keep me informed with progress and please do send me some piccies of your 150% scale Aardvark! - I would love to include them on the site gallery! Cheers from the UK! Phil Cooke.

Glenn, One other thing - if you wanted a copy of the article which accompanied the F-111 plan I can copy that and fax it to you in Aus? Drop me your details on a Private message in this forum or send me an E-mail via the Webmaster links on the main site to confirm your number if you'd like a copy... Phil

Hi Glenn,
Welcome to the PSSA forum. As Rez says, pix would be most welcome, and might even make it into the PSSA newsletter if they are large enough - much less than 1280 x 960 and they don't come out too well.
