Anyone remember the SAS Starjet ? Did anyone ever get one to fly properly ? Mine looks the part , but when making just about any pitch control input , seems like the brake goes on and it stops flying ! It just falls out the sky like a B.A. 777! I have it set up as per the building notes, with the sliding tray mixer that works fine with other SAS planes I have (Thing, Cygnus) , up elevator is coupled to give up on both ailerons , down elevator gives down on both ailerons . That seems a little odd , given cg's and moments etc., but SAS sez that's right . I did hear a while ago that some folk mixed up elevator with down at the ailerons , and vice-versa . Anyone confirm / deny my setup ? I should add that roll control is fine as per notes.
Cheers, fatbloke-dim.

Now there are some names I've not heard, or seen on the slope, for some time. I had quite a few of his planes over the years before he went all EPP but I think Lancaster Models? still sell a range of his proper kits.
Given the nature of the wing which is bordering a delta with a tailplane the first things I would check are:
Elevator movement - Too much might be causing to quick a pitch change, drag would go up significantly, very quickly, causing it to bleed off speed.
C of G - This would be my first thing to check and might also have the benefit of reducing the elevator's sensitivity. My guess is that the C.G is too far back. Moving it forward slightly should help.

You're thinking just what I thought at the time..... I did try reducing the throws on rates, but it was essentially the same. As for the CG, it is a teeny-tiny bit for'ard of optimum , it seemed as tho' it was about right , all things considered . It was suggested by the guy at S.A.S. that the shape of the slope may have been unsuitable (!), but short of stuffing a couple of bricks in it and flying it in a blasted hurricane , I'm about buggered with it.
It seems that there's 2 ways to set it up , one as per the plans , and what you suggest , ie, as a delta with additional elevator ,but before I commit the plane to an alternative setup , I thought I'd canvass other opinions first . Altho' it has'nt flown prpoerly, it is still one of my fave models , and I'd hate to trash it !
I have always found the "conventional" S.A.S. kits to be good and quick to buld and well thought-out . Pleased I am that someone is still knocking 'em out.
Cheers for your input, it's appreciated . FB-D.
