I bought myself a modeltech mustang pss kit from Sandown this year, i'm just about to start putting it together has anybody got any tips to improve its flying performance?

I used to have one of these, and (I assume we're taking about the 50" span version?) it was very good in light lift.
There are several things that I did to improve the flying performance;
1. Used a lightweight elevator servo and stuffed all the radio gear as far forwards as possible. I think I had about 3 1/2 oz of nose weight.
2. It was a little bit susceptible to tip stalling, so I twisted a bit of washout into both wing tips (about 1.5 degrees) during covering. It was covered in profilm so the twist stayed in.
3. It's got quite a bit of wing incidence which gives rather too much decelage for a glider, which in turn means that the c.g. needs to be further forwards which in turn means that (if its trimmed for level flight) the nose will tend to pitch up as it flies through patches of lift. What I did was to *increase* the tailplane incidence a bit (about a degree, from memory, and it wasn't quite enough).
Finally, I don't know if the instructions still say "balance on the spar"? On both examples I've seen, this is too far back! I seem to remember that the c.g. on mine ended up about 1/4" in front of the spar.
Good luck with it...

Thanks Andy for all that info.
Mine came already covered so i'm not sure whether i'll be able to get the washout you suggested but i'll try some how. The c.g. instructions are still the same but when I bought it the man from modeltech informed me that it did need to be 1/4" to 1/2" in front of the spar. Time to crack on with it and get it flying up at Ivinghoe

Ah, good. It'll be nice to see someone else flying PSS at Ivinghoe.
